Reza Pahlavi appeals to Trump for Iran regime change policy measures

Exiled Iranian Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi has called for “humanitarian intervention” in his country and urgent international measures against Iran’s ruling regime, amid reports of protests and mass deaths.

Pahlavi appealed to President Donald Trump after Trump said regime change in Iran “would be the best thing that could happen.”

The prince listed various measures the United States could take to weaken the Ayatollah; these include neutralizing the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), cracking down on “ghost tankers” that secretly transport sanctioned oil and generating revenue for the regime, expelling diplomats or holding them accountable for criminal behavior, freezing the assets of oligarchs, supporting protesters with internet access, and calling for the unconditional release of all political prisoners in Iran.

He hoped that these provisions would speed up the process of “getting rid of this regime.”

Pahlavi positions himself as the transitional leader of post-regime Iran. He said it would serve to “mobilize and unite the secular democratic opposition” with the ultimate goal of facilitating “a democratic process that will be fully transparent and under international observation” that will allow Iranians to decide the future of their country.

His comments come at a time when Iran is roiled by anti-government demonstrations and the regime’s reprisals against them. Pahlavi said at least 36,000 people were killed by police in the first two days of protests, but accurate data was difficult to collect.

“But in the meantime, at least 40 thousand people were arrested. The exact number of those missing has not yet been determined. We have over 330 thousand injured people,” he said.

He also praised the hundreds of thousands of people who gathered in cities around the world for the Global Day of Action to call for new leadership in Iran.“It’s an unprecedented show of unity and support for each other.”
