Burjis Godrej to join Godrej Industries board, Pirojsha to take over as chair on 14 August

Mumbai: Godrej Industries Group on Monday announced the elevation of group chairman’s son Burjis Godrej Nadir Godrej has been appointed to the board of directors of group holding company Godrej Industries Ltd as part of succession planning.

According to a press release, the 34-year-old actor will take on the role of chairman of listed Godrej Agrovet and join the board of Godrej Industries as a non-executive director from August 14. On the same day, his 45-year-old cousin Pirojsha Godrej will take over the chairmanship of the group, replacing Nadir Godrej, who will resign when he turns 75.

Although Pirojsha’s ascension to the head of the $20 billion Godrej Industries Group was announced in April 2024, this is the first time Burjis’ future role in group leadership has been made public. Burjis resigned as managing director of Astec LifeSciences, a subsidiary of Godrej Agrovet, with effect from Monday. He will continue to serve as a non-executive director on the company’s board of directors.

Godrej Industries Group consists of listed companies of Godrej Industries. Godrej Consumer Products Ltd, Godrej Properties Ltd, Godrej Agrovet Ltd and private companies Godrej Seeds and Genetics Ltd, Innovia Multiventures Pvt. Ltd and Astec Lifesciences Ltd.

Focus on endurance

“Our focus will be on building a stronger, more resilient Godrej Agrovet, driving sustainable growth while sharpening practices across our businesses,” Burjis Godrej said in a statement.

Vishal Sharma, CEO of Godrej Chemicals, has taken over as chairman of Astec LifeSciences with effect from Monday. The company said Arijit Mukherjee, the company’s chief operating officer, will be appointed as executive director.

Speaking of leading Godrej Industries, Pirojsha said this is both a responsibility and a privilege.

“We inherit a remarkable legacy built over generations, and our task now is to ambitiously build on that legacy while remaining true to the values ​​that define us,” he said.

The 129-year-old Godrej Group was split into Godrej Industries Group and Godrej Enterprises Group in April 2024. The latter consists of the unlisted firm Godre & Boyce and its subsidiaries, which have business interests in aerospace, defence, energy, construction materials, healthcare equipment and consumer durables, among others. Nyrika Holkar became the new generation managing director of the company after taking over from her uncle Jamshyd Godrej.
