Gunman, 89, at large after Greece shootings injure five

Five people were injured in two separate armed attacks carried out by an elderly gunman who was on the run in Athens.

The 89-year-old suspect opened fire with a shotgun at the EFKA social security institution branch in Greece on Tuesday, wounding an employee in the leg, police said.

The gunman then took a taxi to the court building, where he fired several shots, slightly wounding four female court clerks, according to police and court officials.

According to media reports, the attacker left his shotgun and the letters he wrote to the newspapers at the scene and fled on foot.

“Four women working in the first instance court were slightly injured,” Stratis Dounias, head of the judiciary workers union in Athens, told public broadcaster ERT. he said.

Police did not comment on a possible motive.

Greek media stated that the suspect was a garbage collector from the Athens area.
