On Tuesday morning every newspaper devoted its front page to the future of Sir Keir Starmer’s premiership, with the Times declaring: “Cabinet turns its back on Starmer.” The newspaper reported that “almost 80” Labor MPs, including at least three senior Cabinet ministers, had publicly told the prime minister it was time to go. Sources told the Times that both Home Affairs Minister Shabana Mahmood and Foreign Affairs Minister Yvette Cooper were pressing the prime minister to “set a timetable for his departure”.
