California deputies shot while responding to shooting of gas and electric worker

Two deputies and a Pacific Gas and Electric Co. gunman were killed in Thursday’s shootings in California, according to authorities. The employee was injured and the armed attacker was also shot in the incident.
El Dorado Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a home on Mountain View Drive in Camino at 7:25 a.m. after Pacific Gas and Electric crew reported they had been shot at by someone from a nearby home, the sheriff’s office wrote on Facebook.
Deputies said a Pacific Gas and Electric employee was injured in the incident and taken to the hospital. It was learned that the worker’s injuries were not life-threatening.
Deputies responded immediately and a SWAT team arrived to assist about three hours later.

The sheriff’s office said an officer-involved shooting occurred around 11:25 a.m. as the SWAT team was trying to de-escalate tensions at the scene.
During this encounter, two deputies and the suspect were shot and taken to the hospital. While the condition of the deputies is stated to be stable, the condition of the suspect is not yet clear.
The investigation of the incident continues.

Pacific Gas and Electric Co. said it was aware of the incident in which a “contract co-worker” was injured.
“We are grateful to the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office for their quick response to this incident,” a spokesperson for the company told Fox 40.
Union IBEW Local 1245 identified the worker as a member and expressed gratitude that his injuries were not life-threatening.
“We are incredibly relieved that our union brother and team member are doing well after what was likely a horrific experience,” Bob Dean, the union’s business manager, said in a statement to KCRA. he said. “Our thoughts are also with the two El Dorado County Sheriff’s deputies who were injured while responding to the situation.”

“These workers respond immediately to outages and emergencies, often working in hazardous conditions such as high-voltage electricity, severe weather and other hazards to keep our communities running,” he continued. “This job already comes with real risks. They never have to worry about violence from the people they’re there to help. Unfortunately, we’re seeing these types of incidents happening more often, and that’s unacceptable.”
