Campaigners name UK’s ‘most repulsive road’ amid litter blight | News

A section of the A38 in Willington has been branded Britain’s “most disgusting road”, with images showing the border being covered in a sea of rubbish.
Campaign group Clean Up Britain, which says it is “the only national organization dedicated solely to tackling the litter and fly-tipping epidemic”, said the area had become a makeshift bin for drivers throwing cans and packaging materials through their windows.
National Highways told Independent The clean-up operation is the responsibility of South Derbyshire District Council. However, the local authority insisted that the responsibility lay with National Highways.
“We are currently meeting with National Highways to see if we can assist them in resolving this issue and will work collaboratively to promote anti-littering campaigns and encourage motorists to take their rubbish home and not litter on the motorway network.” a spokesman said.
