Canadian Police respond to BBQ food theft, culprit found to be fox with mouthful of hot dogs

There’s actually nothing better than firing up the grill and having a nice barbecue, but few things are as enraging as getting ready to cook and realizing something’s missing.

For me, this usually means I completely forgot to check the propane gauge beforehand.

But in the case of a Canadian outdoor cook, someone robbed all of his food… and it turned out someone had claws… four of them.

According to Alberta RCMP, officers were alerted to a “theft involving barbecue products.”

Thanks to the boys in blue (I actually think there’s red there) for coming, because it would have been pretty easy to say, “Go to the store and buy some new barbecue supplies.”

When police arrived at the scene, they realized they needed to look for a suspect who was “red-haired, short and wearing a heavy coat.”

They eventually found the culprit of the act.

This sounds like the animal kingdom’s version of the “I Think You Should Leave” sketch. Where Tim Robinson dresses up as a hot dog after a hot dog cart crashes into the wall of a clothing store.

No need for a grizzled detective to solve this crime. In the wild, foxes don’t settle for hot dogs (although I’ve never been to Canada, so things may be different there).

That little guy was doing no good to the reputation of foxkind. I have a feeling they will go after nature’s greatest kleptomaniacs. I think I’d put foxes in second place, just ahead of seagulls but behind raccoons.

You need to outmaneuver the raccoons. They wear little thieves masks.

Who knows what this guy is thinking, but there’s a non-zero chance it has something to do with stealing something. (iStock)

Canadian authorities said the “suspect was released unconditionally and fed,” which was a very welcome gesture, but now there’s a fox prowling the Alberta wilderness with a taste of Nathan’s hot dogs.

I wouldn’t let them keep the dogs.

I’m not proud of it, but part of me wishes I could rinse the sausages so I wouldn’t have to go to Walmart.
