Canadian soccer fans boo U.S. flag as Canada stumbles against Bosnia and Herzegovina
The United States continues to live rent-free in the minds of Canadians. This was evident again just minutes before Canada’s first World Cup match, when rival nations were recognized during the Parade of Nations at Toronto Stadium.

When it came time for the United States’ pre-game recognition, Canadian fans booed, as they have done at many sporting events over the past few years. Great sportsmanship, isn’t it?

As I said, this is nothing new for our neighbors to the north. Canadian fans booed the US national anthem during the 4 Nations Face-Off last season and at numerous NHL games.
Since then, Canada has lost three Olympic gold medal games to the United States in men’s hockey, women’s hockey and para ice hockey. And if it weren’t for some lucky defending from a Bosnia-Herzegovina defender in the 78th minute, Canada would have found itself on the wrong end of the biggest defeat of the World Cup so far.
An equalizer would be all Canada could muster against Bosnia and Herzegovina as the game finished 1-1, making for a disappointing start to their World Cup campaign, especially on home soil.

Canada, friendly advice, though you don’t deserve it at this point: I’d stop booing. It didn’t turn out so well for you.
