IATA proposes higher age limit of 67 years for pilots operating commercial flights

New Delhi, August 27 (PTI) Global Airlines Grouping IATA, proposed to increase the upper age limit to 67 years for pilots operating multi -pilot commercial flights.

In the midst of the shortage of existing pilots compared to the increasing demand encouraged by the aviation sector growth, IATA was offered to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) represents approximately 350 airlines worldwide, including Air India, Indigo and Spicejet.

In a study document titled ‘Multi -Pilot Commercial Air Transportation Pilot Age Bound to 67 years’, IATA said that the growth of the worldwide aviation industry caused pilots to overcome the supply.

“In order to allow more pilot to continue to work, CAT (Commercial Air Transport) pilot is compatible with the target of Sustainable Development (SKH), including 15 United Nations (UN), including the initiative of the Future Generation Aviation Professionals (NGAP) program, whether it is an attempt to hire former candidates, to hold existing pilots, to hold existing pilots, to the future for the future.

In 2006, the upper age limit of the pilots to run multiple pilot flights was increased from 60 years to 65 years.

Stressing that raising the limit to 65 years does not endanger the aviation safety and integrity, the grouping of airlines said that the proposed increase until the age of 67 was “a cautious but reasonable step with security”.

There are no upper age limits for pilots, including pilots performing cat operations in at least three countries – Canada, Australia and New Zealand – Cat operations.

For commercial pilots in India, one of the fastest growing civil aviation markets in the world, the retirement age is 65 years.

According to IATA, the work certificate supports ICAO initiatives to date to advance more integrated medical evaluation systems.

They will strengthen the value and effectiveness of a system -based integrated approach that will ensure the management of any medical condition that will ensure the safe implementation of changes in the pilot age boundaries and may affect flight safety.

In addition, the grouping of the airlines, not subject to age limits, similar functional requirements, unmissable risk targets and operational competence tests evaluated according to licensed air traffic controllers evaluated increased medical safety incidents, he said there is no evidence.

“Two leading concerns for the risk of fatal accidents are mental health conditions and problematic use (eg alcohol and other drugs). These potential causes of aviation tend to emerge in a younger demographic.”

In the study document, the grouping requested ICAO to create standard medical risk assessment and surveillance systems informed by a standard pilot medical data set to reliably evaluate the medical risks associated with pilot age.

In addition, it has taken steps to cooperate with industrial and representative organs in the development of guidance materials in increasing the upper age limit to 67 years for pilots who undertake international cat operations of the countries.

In the meantime, India presented ICAO a working certificate on the ‘need to address difficulties for equal opportunities in international operations’, where it caused concerns about some foreign airlines to kidnap pilots from Indian carriers.

“India will encourage the carriers of some contracted states to encourage trained technical personnel of Indian carriers without any consultation/notification, thus causing interruption in the regular execution of civil aviation in India and the development of a behavior on the movement of the personnel, and to reduce the hostile impact on Indian carriers.

42. ICAO Assembly will be held between 23 September – 3 October in Canada, Montreal.
