Nearly a year after the man’s mysterious disappearance, the city’s crime branch recovered Samir Ansari’s bones and other remains from under the kitchen floor of his locked house in Ahmedabad’s Sarkhej area on Tuesday night, Deputy Commissioner of Police Ajit Rajian said.

Mr Rajian revealed that Ansari’s escaped wife Ruby, with help from her mistress Imran Vaghela and two of her relatives, killed Ansari, dismembered his body and buried it under the kitchen floor; This crime, he stated, stemmed from his alleged extramarital affair.

“While Vaghela, who lives in the same area, has been arrested, Ruby is still at large along with two of Vaghela’s relatives, Rahim and Mohsin,” the DCP said, adding that the bones and other remains found in the house have been sent for forensic analysis and DNA matching.

Mr. Rajian said that about three months ago, a crime branch inspector received a tip-off that Samir Ansari, originally from Bihar, had not been seen in the area for a long time and there was no police record of his disappearance either.

“We later observed the area and found out that Ansari was missing for the last one year. During interrogation, Vaghela broke down and confessed that he was there along with two others. [his kin] “He killed Ansari a year ago on the orders of his wife Ruby.”

“Vaghela alleged that Ruby hatched the plan to kill Ansari because he had beaten her after learning about his extramarital affair and Ruby saw him as a hindrance in her illicit affair,” the DCP said.

Ansari, who works as a bricklayer, came to Ahmedabad from Bihar in 2016 after his love marriage with Ruby and the couple has two children. Mr. Rajian said that while they were staying at Ahmedi Row House near Fatehwadi canal, Ruby fell in love with Vaghela, which angered her husband.

“Imran, with the help of Ruby and two others, first slit Ansari’s throat and dismembered his body. They then dug a hole in the kitchen and threw the body and covered it with cement and tiles. When people asked about Ansari, Ruby would tell them that he had gone to another city for work,” the police officer said.

She said she lived in the house where her husband was killed for several months and then moved elsewhere with her children.

Mr. Rajian added that the house was locked when a crime branch team reached there to exhume the body before a magistrate.
