Cardinals walk-off win sparks shirtless fan frenzy at Busch Stadium

Friday night at Busch Stadium in St. In the ninth inning of the St. Louis Cardinals’ 5-4 victory over the Kansas City Royals, fans began moving toward an empty field in right field and took off their jerseys.

The match ended in a 3-3 tie as the fans moved towards the empty field in the last part of the ninth inning. About 100 fans first started the movement, and as the game went into extra innings, the entire section was filled with shirtless fans. St. Louis Post Dispatch.

The idea came to 20-year-old Caleb Cummings, who plays for the Stephen F. Austin club baseball team.

“I looked at my friend and said, ‘What if we went to the stands in right field and started waving our jerseys?’ I said. cummings told St. Louis Post Dispatch. “They say, ‘You know, it’s a good idea.’ We didn’t intend for it to get this big; we were just going there for fun. We went up there, we all stood there and said, ‘Who’s going to do it first?’ ” we thought.

Bryce Bradford was the first to take off his shirt and wave it around, which quickly attracted the crowd.

“He started shaking her and going crazy,” Cummings said. “Then it spread, and in the section next to us there are a few kids coming to join in. And pretty soon I’m seeing people from 80s to kids doing it. Dads are coming with their kids, running around with their shirts off.”

When Yohel Pozo hit a 100 mph fastball to win the game in the bottom of the 11th inning, the shirtless crew in the right field stands went wild. This was the Cardinals’ fourth win of the season.

Cardinals manager Olli Marmol opened his postgame press conference by praising the energy the shirtless fans brought.

“Whoever started this on the right field, I’m going to do whatever I have to do to make sure they come to every game,” Marmol said. “Because it was amazing. Not just them, but everyone who came today. It was a fun environment.”

The coach said the fans really had an impact on the match.

“This creates an environment that not only fills the place but also makes it difficult for other teams to come and play,” Marmol said. “That was great. I’ll sign up for that any day.”

The Cardinals (26-18) will look to continue their momentum when they meet the Royals (19-26) again in the second game of the three-game series on Saturday.
