A Carnival cruise ship crew spotted distress flares while sailing toward Cozumel, Mexico, and rescued a sailor and his cat stranded at sea. Both were brought safely aboard and taken into care. FOX 26 spoke with two passengers who were on the ship.

A Carnival Cruise Line ship came to the rescue of a stranded sailor and his cat on Tuesday, April 14, after the crew noticed distress signals from a disabled sailboat in open waters en route from Galveston, Texas, to Cozumel, Mexico.
Carnival Legend was navigating the Caribbean itinerary when crew members noticed emergency flares.
They took action quickly; They deployed a small boat to bring the man and his cat, Dahlia, safely aboard, video taken at the scene shows.

“The sailor and his cat are safe and well,” Carnival Cruise Line said in a statement to Fox News Digital.
The sailor had been adrift for several days after experiencing engine problems.

The company said it desperately lit flares, hoping to be rescued.
Carnival also said in a statement: “The sailor is currently being cared for by Legend’s medical team.” he said.

The man’s name was not released.

“We’ve probably been on 30 cruises before and never experienced anything like this,” said a cruise passenger and his wife. he told Fox 26 in an interview.
“Being in the middle of the ocean, and then you look out and see a spotlight shining on a sailboat going up and down in the waves… [the sailboat] “It was troublesome.”

Dahlia the cat quickly became an unexpected guest on the ship, attracting the attention of passengers and crew alike.
Carnival Legend is a Spirit-class cruise ship that was launched in 2002 after being built in Finland, according to the company.
