Carol Clark murder: Note may be ‘significant’ to crack 1993 cold case

Detectives hope a note linked to the unsolved murder of a sex worker whose body was found near a canal more than 30 years ago could be “important”.
Carol Clark was 32 when her body was found by a dog walker on the edge of the Gloucester and Sharpness Canal, partly covered in reeds and bushes.
He was strangled and his neck was broken.
Ms Clark, who lived in Bristol, was last seen getting into a Volvo car in the Montpelier area of the city at around 11.30pm on March 26, 1993.
She was wearing a black baseball cap, brown leather jacket, blue denim miniskirt, black polo-neck sweater and plain blue T-shirt.
Hours earlier, she had left her boyfriend a note saying she was going out to find a job. He planned to be home at 2:30 but never returned.
Two days later, a dog walker found Ms Clark’s body near the water at Sharpness Docks.

He was wearing only his underwear and boots, and the rest of his clothes were never found.
Gloucestershire Police launched a full-scale murder investigation, but despite extensive investigations and investigations into the case, the killer was not found.
The case was reopened three years ago after new information emerged.
Following an earlier public appeal, a witness said he saw a woman matching Ms Clark’s description walking with two men on the Berkley bypass.
Three men have been arrested on suspicion of murder in recent years.
They were a 69-year-old man from Gloucestershire, a 48-year-old man from Lincolnshire and a 66-year-old man from Newcastle.
Detectives later excluded the Newcastle man from the investigation but the other two men remain under investigation.

Detective Chief Inspector Wayne Usher, who is leading the investigation, said: “I believe someone out there knows what happened to Carol and we are determined to do everything we can to get justice for her and her family.
“This weekend we are marking the 33rd anniversary of the day his body was discovered and we wanted to use this opportunity to once again appeal to anyone who may have information that could help us.
“We suspect that Carol was alive and potentially with two men throughout Saturday, March 27, 1993.
“We also suspect that Carol’s body may have been deposited at Sharpness Docks during daylight hours, at a time when many people were celebrating the 200th anniversary of British Waterways.
“Carol was wearing distinctive clothing at the time of her disappearance and so we would once again appeal to anyone who remembers seeing her on Saturday, or who remembers seeing anyone acting suspiciously, to contact us.
“You may have the final piece of the puzzle that will help us catch those responsible for his death.”
Mr Usher added: “We are in contact with Carol’s family and are committed to providing them with any updates on any significant developments in our investigation.”
