James Carville and Al Hunt of the “Politics War Room” speculated about whether Sen. John Fetterman, D-Pa., could switch parties and upset Democrats’ Senate plans.

as Carville and Hunt took questions A member of the audience asked why Fetterman, known for his surprisingly bipartisan stance, didn’t go all the way and switch parties.

“I’m not a big Fetterman fan,” Carville said, adding that he thought Fetterman was often motivated by wanting his name in the papers.

“It may change because they will accurately say whether he wants to run again — I don’t know, but most politicians do — he doesn’t stand a chance in the Democratic primary.

“If I’m a Republican, I’ll go for Fetterman,” Carville continued. “I said, ‘If you change your last two years in the Senate, we’ll give you major committee assignments. You’ll be relevant. You’ll be loved here.’

“That’s why I say Democrats need to have a great year in the Senate, because picking up four seats may not be enough. That’s a real threat.”

Carville suggested the best-case scenario is one in which Democrats gain enough seats in the Senate if Fetterman leaves. But a possible departure by Fetterman could shake up Democrats’ plans and lead to a closer victory.

Assuming the party has had a “monster year,” Carville suggested the three Senate races will reveal whether Democrats are headed for a big wave or just a narrow win.

One scenario discussed was for Democrats to pull off a modest victory, gaining enough seats to control the chamber, in which case every vote counted. And then the possibility of someone like Fetterman switching parties becomes a real threat that could weaken majorities.

Al Hunt warned, “If you win all three, you’ll probably get eight or 10 seats. If you win none, the Fetterman nightmare could come true.”

Fox News Digital reached out to Fetterman but did not immediately receive a response.
