Caste-Based Flags, Symbols Banned During Nellaiappar Car Fest

Tirunelveli: The use of caste-based flags, banners, symbols and other social identifiers was banned during the Aani chariot festival held at the Nellaiappar Temple in Tirunelveli and city police commissioner T. Deshmukh Shekar Sanjay warned that strict action would be taken against anyone violating the order.

The commissioner said the restrictions have been imposed to ensure smooth, peaceful and harmonious conduct of the annual temple festival, which attracts thousands of devotees across the state. He instructed police personnel to maintain higher vigil and take immediate action to prevent any activity that could disrupt public order or communal harmony.

Aani car festival is one of the most important religious events in the region. The chariot procession, scheduled for June 28, is expected to witness a large crowd of devotees.
