Caught on camera: Terrifying landslide video captures trucks toppling at Indonesia nickel mine | World News

Dramatic footage captured the terrifying moment a massive secondary landslide hit a nickel mining site in North Maluku province. This viral video shows workers narrowly escaping as a wave of earth and debris moved towards the PT Mega Haltim Mine (MHM) site, knocking over heavy machinery in its path.

The escape was captured on the dashboard camera

The 74-second clip, reportedly shot from a heavy road construction vehicle, offers a first-person perspective of the disaster.

Escape: When the ground begins to shake, the driver is seen hastily unbuckling his seat belt and jumping out of the cabin.

worker panic: Outside the vehicle, several miners are seen running for their lives as the slope above turns into a fast-flowing “river” of mud and rock.

vehicle destruction: A few minutes later, another large truck nearby is pushed aside by the force of the ground and then turns sideways. The video ends with a cloud of dust and soil as debris covers the area.

Security situation at PT Mega Haltim Maden

Although the images are alarming, there has been no official confirmation of any injuries from the incident shown in the video at the PT MHM site. Local authorities are reviewing safety protocols at the North Maluku facility, which is part of Indonesia’s growing nickel industry.

National crisis: Deadly landslides increase in Java

The images from East Halmahera come as Indonesia faces a wider humanitarian crisis caused by incessant monsoon rains.

West Java tragedy

Earlier this week, a devastating landslide occurred in Pasir Langu village in West Java’s Bandung Barat district, with the death toll rising as search efforts continued.

death toll: As of Tuesday, at least 48 people are confirmed dead, 30 victims have already been identified.

missing persons: Rescue teams, supported by search and rescue dogs and over 800 personnel, are still searching for 32 people who are thought to be trapped under the mud.

military loss: Among the dead are 23 Indonesian Navy officers who were reportedly trapped when the hillside collapsed during border patrol training in the hilly area.

“A winter full of disasters” for Indonesia

Climate experts have warned that the 2026 monsoon season will be unusually severe. After the major hurricane that hit Sumatra two months ago and killed 1,200 people, the existing saturation of the soil in rugged and mining-intensive areas has made landslides frequent.

As rescue operations continue in West Java and damage assessments begin in East Halmahera, the country remains on high alert for further “rips” and landslide events.
