CBI searches 26 locations in Border Roads Organisation fund misappropriation case

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Monday, July 6, 2026, conducted searches at 26 locations across 11 States and Union Territories in connection with four separate cases related to alleged misappropriation of funds belonging to the Border Roads Organization (BRO).
The searches were carried out in Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Delhi, Haryana, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Maharashtra, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland.

According to the agency, in addition to private individuals, cases were also registered against 10 officers of the ranks of Lieutenant Colonel, Major and Engineer.
“These cases relate to irregularities in the deployment of casual workers and payments made in the name of fake casual laborers in the Vijayak and Yojak Project in the Union Territory of Ladakh,” the agency said. The four First Information Reports were registered based on criminal complaints filed by the Union Ministry of Defense following an internal investigation conducted by the Board of Technical Officers of the BRO.
The offenses include allegations of misappropriation of government funds, cheating, forgery, breach of trust and criminal conspiracy under the old Indian Penal Code and criminal misappropriation and bribery under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
The agency said many incriminating documents and digital evidence were seized during the searches.
