The CBI registered an FIR in the Twisha Sharma dowry death case under BNS Sections 80(2), 85 and 3(5) around 8:30 pm on Monday night, May 25, 2026, after a team from New Delhi arrived and took over the case from Bhopal Police as per the FIR.

After the meeting, the CBI re-registered the state police FIR as its own case as per procedure.

The case was referred by Rajnish Kashyap Kaul, ACP Misrod and the head of the SIT, which is reviewing the case so far.

The Madhya Pradesh High Court on Monday, May 25, 2026, gave two days to retired judge Giribala Singh to respond to two pleas challenging the bail granted to him in the Twisha Sharma dowry death and harassment case; The State Government told the court he was not co-operating with the investigation.

The development came on a day when the special investigation team (SIT) of Bhopal Police questioned Ms. Singh for the first time since the FIR was lodged in the case on May 15. Bhopal Police Commissioner Sanjay Kumar rejected allegations that CCTV footage from Ms Singh’s house, where Twisha Sharma was found dead on the night of May 12, was tampered with.

Earlier in the evening, the Bhopal Police SIT took Samarth Singh to his house to re-enact the May 12 events on the spot and collect crucial evidence, an officer said.

The Supreme Court bench, comprising Chief Justice of India Surya Kant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi, which heard the case on Monday, May 25, 2026, said it would ensure that the investigation is a fair, independent and impartial investigation.
