CBS “Face the Nation” host Margaret Brennan challenges Democratic Rep. Ted Lieu on the party’s nomination byelection It’s a message saying Democrats are “losing” the fight over the record-setting Department of Homeland Security shutdown.

“Okay, so you still believe Democrats can take back the House?” Brennan asked Lieu, who represents California’s 36th Congressional District. “What is your main message?”

“The American people voted for Donald Trump because they wanted costs cut and he lied to them,” Lieu said. “Our inflation is rising, gas prices are skyrocketing. Trump’s tariffs have increased the costs of many products across America. People are drowning in debt and bills, and Democrats will lower health care costs, lower overall costs, lower your energy costs. That’s our message…”

“How are you going to do this?” Brennan intervened. “Democrats shut down the government to fight over health care, got no policy concessions, and premiums went up. You lost that fight.”

Lieu said the House passed a three-year extension of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) tax credits and called on the Senate to pass that legislation as well.

“Once we take control, we will reverse the massive Medicaid cuts, Medicare cuts, and ACA cuts that Trump and the Republicans made last year,” Lieu added.
