Celtic: ‘I’m not sure I learned much more’ about my squad, says Martin O’Neill

Former Celtic defender Jackie McNamara said: “Most teams playing against Celtic are comfortable with possession as long as they don’t cross the lines.”
“They’re pushing them and saying ‘we’ll deal with it’ because there’s no target man to win these headers.
“If they had done that they would have scored a lot more goals but you can see with Kenny it’s not his game. He’s a second striker and not a number nine.”
Former Hearts striker Ryan Stevenson was similarly unimpressed with some of Celtic’s starters.
“Martin will have learned a lot about the players on the sidelines today,” he said.
“He and his backroom staff will have a meeting and say, ‘he didn’t take his opportunity,’ or ‘I don’t think he did a good enough job,’ or ‘He did a good enough job.’
“James Forrest has done a good job and Luke McCowan has worked hard, but there are too many people who have stepped up in some way.”
Kenny hopes his goal will lead to better form ahead of crucial European matches against Bologna and Utrecht, who are either side of the Scottish Premiership tie to league leaders Hearts.
“That’s the life of a striker, when something comes you have to be ready,” he said. “It’s been a tough few weeks. Every striker misses opportunities and hopefully I can make a run at it.
“We know we’re a good side. We’ve had some disruption but we can just focus on game by game and that’s Thursday night in Bologna.”
