College track athlete’s girlfriend charged with murder in stabbing death

The girlfriend of a college track and field athlete has been arrested for allegedly stabbing her boyfriend to death.
Jamaican senior sprinter Kevaughn Goldson was killed in a stabbing attack on Lincoln University’s campus in Jefferson City, Missouri.
Goldson, 23, was found with stab wounds to his back and chest after police were called to a home on Monday morning. He died from his injuries after being taken to hospital.

The University of Lincoln said: “Our thoughts are with our family, friends, faculty, staff and everyone else affected by this tragic situation.” he told KRCG in a press release about Goldson’s death.
“The well-being of our university community is our top priority. Students and staff are reminded of counseling and other support services available to those who need them.”
Goldson’s girlfriend, Denita Jackson, was charged with second-degree murder and armed criminal action by Cole County prosecutors.

Investigators questioned Jackson, who said he believed Goldson was having an affair with one of his roommates and found her in bed with both of them clothed after returning home.

According to court documents, Jackson used her hairpin to open her roommate’s locked door after hearing her talking to someone in her room. Doctors said Jackson jumped on his roommate’s bed and grabbed Goldson by his shirt and an allegedly missing bottle of cologne, leading to a fight.
Goldson then allegedly began choking Jackson while he was on top of her, which led to Jackson grabbing a knife from under the bed and stabbing Jackson.
While Jackson was allegedly the person who called police about the incident, authorities initially took Goldson to the Capital Regional Emergency Department. He was later airlifted to University Hospital and eventually died during surgery.

Goldson, who stands 6 feet tall and weighs 160 pounds, was a middle-distance runner for the Blue Tigers early in his college career before moving into a sprinter role with the program.
