Census 2027: Around 82 lakh households have opted for self enumeration as field visits begin in 5 states

According to a government statement issued on Friday, May 1, 2026, around 82 lakh households have benefited from the self-enumeration facility so far in the first House Listing and Housing Operations (HLO) phase of Census 2027.

It was stated that enumerators in Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Haryana, Chandigarh, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh started duty on Friday, May 1 and started field operations of the HLO exercise after completion of the notified 15-day self-count window.
