570 Lost Mobile Phones Worth Rs 1.14 Crore Returned To Owners In Nellore
What are you doing? Nellore district police recovered and returned 570 lost and stolen mobile phones worth around Rs 1.14 million to their owners under the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) initiative.
Regional Police Chief Dr. Ajitha Vejendla handed over the recovered mobile phones to their beneficiaries at the district police office on Friday.
He said that the district police have so far recovered and returned 5,010 mobile phones worth around Rs 10 crore in nine phases.
The recovery was done through the CEIR portal with the coordinated efforts of the regional Cyber Crime wing and local police, the SP said.
He said that the mobile phones tracked in other districts and states were seized with the support of the relevant police units and returned to their owners.
Dr Ajitha Vejendla said mobile phones have become indispensable for communication, banking, education, employment and business activities and losing them often causes inconvenience and concerns about personal data.
He urged the public to immediately report lost or stolen phones through the CEIR portal or to the nearest police station to help police quickly block and track devices.
Warning criminals against theft, the SP said that strict action would be taken against those involved in such crimes.
He also advised people to keep purchase receipts and IMEI details of their mobile phones and avoid buying second-hand devices without proper documentation.
A special team consisting of technically trained police personnel under the supervision of CI rank police officers is conducting mobile tracking and rescue operations in the district.
The SP appreciated the efforts of the Cyber Crime team, Station House Officers and other staff involved in the rescue process.
