Chalmers to hand down federal budget tonight; Australians leave hantavirus ship; Trump says ceasefire ‘on life support’

Deputy Treasurer Daniel Mulino said this morning that tonight’s budget would be “heavily in favor of young people, working class people and Australians trying to get into the housing market”.

“I think people will judge this budget on what it actually achieves on a number of important fronts, including intergenerational fairness, productivity and the resilience of our economy and society,” he told Sky News earlier.

While “balances” need to be struck in various policy areas, Mulino insisted this was a budget that would still benefit young people and workers.

Echoing the treasurer and prime minister earlier, he said: “I think what you’ll see when you look at this whole budget, and it’s overwhelmingly in favor of young people, those trying to get into the housing market and working people.” he said.
