Champions League final: Arrests in Budapest and investigation into fan brawl

Budapest police are examining camera footage to identify fans fighting ahead of Saturday’s Champions League final between Arsenal and Paris St-Germain.

In the statement made by the police, it was stated that the incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Images of approximately 30 fans of each club allegedly fighting and lighting torches appeared on social media.

In the police statement, it was said: “On May 30, 2026, at around 00:20, several fans fought on Kiraly Street, 7th district of Budapest.”

“BRFK 7th Regional Police Department has initiated an investigation against unknown perpetrators for gang violence, and camera records are also being examined in this context.”

Around 4,000 police will be deployed in the Hungarian capital for the Champions League final and tens of thousands of fans are expected to travel to Budapest without tickets.

On Tuesday, Hungarian deputy national police chief Zoltan Janos Kuczik said: “This will be the largest single-day police deployment in the history of Hungary.”

The incident was described as a “high-risk incident” because security preparations began more than a year ago.

Two Portuguese and an Englishman were arrested and charged with disorderly conduct following a fight at the Champions League fan festival ground on Friday.

A British man who climbed onto the roof of a parked car and damaged it was also arrested, police said.
