Channel Nine reporter Danika Mason apologises for Winter Olympics broadcast
Channel Nine sports reporter Danika Mason has apologized for drinking and stumbling over her words ahead of an awkward live match at the Winter Olympics in Italy.
Mason appeared to be slurring his words as he handed over his sports packet. Today Show While live from Livigno in the Italian Alps on Wednesday morning (Australian time), there was a strange reaction from the co-hosts in the studio.
Mason spoke to the broadcast as he completed his first live pass. today’s The Thursday morning show apologized after “completely misjudging the situation” the day before.
Mason told hosts Karl Stefanovic and Jayne Azzopardi: “Just before we go, I’d like to take a moment to apologize, if that’s okay.”
“I’m fine, I’m probably just a little embarrassed. Look, I completely misjudged the situation. I shouldn’t have been drinking, especially in these conditions, it’s cold, it’s altitude, and not having dinner probably didn’t help either. But I want to take full responsibility, that’s not the standard I set for myself.”
“While I say I’m really sorry, I also thank everyone for the messages I’ve received. We’ve got a great few days left here at the Winter Olympics as well, so hopefully we can turn our attention back to that and I’ll be back here in about half an hour to do more sports.”
Stefanovic told Mason: “I don’t even know what you’re talking about”, while Azzopardi told the sports reporter: “We know how hard you work” and “we love you”.
Stefanovic said after Mason’s live cross on Wednesday: Today Speaking can be difficult when reporting from freezing climates, viewers said Wednesday.
