Chelsea manager latest: Liam Rosenior leading candidate to succeed Enzo Maresca

Former Leicester boss Maresca, 45, stepped down as Chelsea head coach on Thursday amid internal tensions over the club’s hierarchy and ownership.

The process of replacing the Italian pilot is ongoing and it is understood that British Rosenior is ahead, but sources emphasized that other candidates are also being considered.

Rosenior’s current employers are BlueCo, the investment vehicle set up to buy Chelsea in 2022.

The 41-year-old football player, who previously coached Hull, has significant support in Chelsea and it is understood that candidates to replace him are being evaluated in Strasbourg due to his possible departure.

Porto’s Francesco Farioli has also been suggested as a potential rival.

Before appointing Maresca in 2024, Chelsea interviewed Marseille manager Roberto de Zerbi, Ipswich counterpart Kieran McKenna and Thomas Frank, who was then at Brentford but has since moved to Tottenham.

Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola and Fulham’s Marco Silva have also been linked with the role in the past, but it is unclear whether they are currently candidates.

The club will not change their style of play, so they are unlikely to sign Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner.

It remains to be seen who will lead Sunday’s game against Manchester City, but under-21s head coach Calum McFarlane will handle media duties at a press conference to preview the match on Friday.

Goalkeeper Robert Sanchez’s social media post stated that Maresca’s backroom team also left the club.
