‘Devil in the Ozarks’ Grant Hardin sentenced for escaping Arkansas prison

The man known as the “Devil in the Ozarks” was sentenced to 80 years in prison for rape and murder and was sentenced Tuesday to an additional 13 years in prison after pleading guilty to escaping from an Arkansas prison.
Izard County Sheriff Charley Melton said 57-year-old Grant Hardin will serve a 13-year consecutive 80-year sentence for second-degree escape. KAIT8 News.
Hardin is currently being held at Varner Supermax in Gould, Arkansas, according to online records from the Arkansas Department of Corrections.
The convicted murderer and rapist was captured on June 6, approximately 2.5 miles north-northwest of the North Central Unit prison facility from which he escaped on May 25.

Hardin escaped from the prison through an exit point at the detention facility, wearing a makeshift ADC-style uniform, authorities said at the time.

Authorities also said Hardin used a black “magic pen” to paint his clothes as part of his disguise.

Multiple federal, state and local agencies participated in the search for Hardin in the weeks following his escape.
When Hardin was captured, tracking dogs were able to pick up a scent near Moccasin Creek and he was captured a short time later, the Arkansas Department of Corrections said.

Hardin was serving an 80-year prison sentence for the 2017 murder of James Appleton and a 1997 rape case.
