The Kansas City Chiefs bounced back from the loss with a dominant 30-17 home win over the Detroit Lions on “Sunday Night Football.”

The Chiefs returned to .500 with a 3-3 record, while the Lions’ four-game winning streak ended and they improved to 4-2 on the year.

As two of the best offenses in the NFL faced off once again at Arrowhead, both teams were expected to be at their best. But the Lions had some key mistakes that ultimately set them back.

One of these key moments came on the first ride; They ran 15 plays on the field and killed almost 10 minutes of the first quarter clock, ending on fourth-and-goal from the one-yard line. Of course, that’s what the Lions team, led by Dan Campbell, was trying to do so close to the goal line, but there was some trickery involved.

Quarterback Jared Goff, who was initially under center, moved to the left and running back David Montgomery threw a pass to him. Goff initially faltered, but was able to regain control and get into the end zone for an impressive touchdown. However, after deliberation, it was determined by authorities that Goff was never set and that this was an illegal conduct flag. Jake Bates was forced to shoot instead of taking a 3-0 lead.

Patrick Mahomes, meanwhile, responded with a touchdown pass, much quicker than the Lions’ opening drive. He found Xavier Worthy for his first touchdown of the season, but Harrison Butker kept the score at 6-3 with his extra point.

The Lions were able to find the end zone on the ensuing drive when Jameson Williams, who had been quiet in recent weeks despite the winning streak, tackled multiple Chiefs tacklers for a 22-yard catch and six points.

Detroit got the Chiefs to turn the ball over on downs and they had an opportunity to really take the lead on the road. But Goff’s fourth-and-2 pass from the Kansas City 44-yard line was intercepted by Amon-Ra St. He did not find himself safe in Brown’s hands. The momentum quickly shifted in the Chiefs’ favor, and Mahomes used it all to take the lead.

This time, Mahomes ran for his fourth touchdown of the season, kept it on a read option, and scored with 37 seconds left.

Once the Chiefs got the ball to start the second half, the goal proved difficult for Campbell’s team to swallow, and Detroit found itself in an even bigger hole as the third quarter began.

Mahomes was methodical on the restart, giving the Hollywood Browns a 20-10 lead on the first of his two second-half field goals. The Lions were able to extend the lead to three early in the fourth quarter as tight end Sam LaPorta made a tremendous one-handed catch for six points.

But just when it appeared the Lions were back in action, Mahomes made the defense pay the price. It was Brown again who found himself wide open on third-and-short near the goal line.

After Butker’s shot made the score 30-17, the Lions needed a miracle to come back from this gap with only 2:26 left in the period. But they failed to connect once again on fourth and short, ending their hopes.

In the box score, Mahomes had a nice showing, passing for 257 yards and three touchdowns on 22-of-30 through the air, while rushing for 31 yards on 10 carries. Tight end Travis Kelce led the way with six catches for 78 yards, along with fiancee Taylor Swift, who attended her first NFL game of the season tonight.

Meanwhile, for the Lions, Goff was 23-of-29 for 203 yards with two touchdown passes. St. Brown had nine catches, but they only went for 45 yards. The Chiefs’ defense also did a great job of slowing down the running game of Jahmyr Gibbs (17 carries, 65 yards) and David Montgomery (four carries, 24 yards).
