Chiefs’ Rashee Rice scores in return from suspension

Kansas City Chiefs wing Rashee Rice entered the end zone against the Las Vegas Raiders early Sunday in his first NFL game following his suspension.
Rice caught a shovel pass from Patrick Mahomes on the Chiefs’ first drive of the Week 7 game. It was a 2-yard score as Kansas City took a 7-0 lead.

The third-year wide receiver received a six-game suspension for his role in a 2024 traffic collision in Dallas. He pleaded guilty to two felony charges in the wreck, including “collision involving serious bodily injury” and “racing on a highway causing bodily injury.”
Authorities in Dallas said Rice paid more than $115,000 in restitution to victims and that the 30-day jail sentence could be served at any point during his five-year probation period.

Rice also suffered an anterior cruciate ligament tear in Week 4 last year when he collided with Mahomes following an interception. He was able to recover and participate in training camp, but remained away from the team as part of the punishment he accepted when the suspension was imposed after the season started.
He said earlier in the week that he was looking forward to his first match in more than a year.
“I’ve been looking forward to it, I think it’s been 380-odd days since I’ve played in a regular season game,” he said.

Rice had 79 catches for 938 yards and seven touchdowns in his rookie year in 2023. The Chiefs won the Super Bowl that season.
