Child killed in house fire in south-west Melbourne home | Victoria

A child died and a man was seriously injured in an early morning fire at a house in Melbourne’s southwest.
Emergency services were called to Newbury Street in Werribee just after midnight on Monday.
Victoria police said crews extinguished the fire before finding a deceased child inside.
A seriously injured male citizen was taken to hospital.
Fire Rescue Team Victoria said firefighters arrived at the scene within three minutes, by which time the single-storey brick house was completely burned.
It took about an hour for 40 firefighters to bring the fire under control.
Police said the circumstances surrounding the fire are being investigated but are not being treated as suspicious.
An arson chemist will arrive on the scene.
The ABC reported that firefighters were told children were trapped in the burning house, but some managed to get out.
First responders were provided with peer support and counseling.
