Case Registered Against Vlogger for Posting Obscene Social Media Videos

Kochi: A case has been registered against a vlogger for allegedly creating and sharing obscene videos of his friends through social media platforms, police said on Sunday. Ernakulam Rural Cyber Police registered the case following a complaint filed by advocate Sreejith Perumana on Saturday, officials said.
Vlogger Thoppi, whose real name is Muhammad Nihad, manages multiple YouTube channels and also shares content through his Instagram accounts.
His main YouTube channel has over a million subscribers.
According to the police, allegations have recently emerged that he posted sexually explicit videos featuring his friends on his YouTube channel and other social media platforms.
The complainant later submitted a petition to Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala and the police, which initiated a preliminary investigation, officials said.
A police officer attached to the Cyber Police Station said investigators examined his social media accounts and confirmed that he was posting obscene videos.
The official said that most of his audience consists of young people and that he constantly uses offensive language in his videos.
The officer said that as part of the preliminary investigation, the statements of Thoppi’s friends were also recorded, following which the case was registered.
This isn’t the first time Thoppi has been on the police radar.
He was detained for allegedly threatening a private bus crew by pointing an air gun at them near Vadakara in Kozhikode district in April last year.
In 2023, he was arrested at Valanchery in Malappuram district for allegedly using abusive language in public and disrupting traffic.
