China’s Envoy Hits Out At Trump’s Tariffs On India, Says ‘Give The Bully An Inch…’ | World News

New Delhi: China’s Ambassador of India, Xu Feihong, criticized the increasing tariff policies, including US President Donald Trump’s recent 50% tasks for Indian exports. The reaction came from an article on the X, where an old proverb referred to in a sharp context.

“Give a inch to the bully, he will get a mile, Xu he wrote, adding a quote between Chinese Foreign Minister Wang and Brazilian President Lula da Silva’s Chief Advisor Celso Amorim.

“Using tariffs as a weapon to suppress other countries violates the UN charter, weakens the DTO rules and is both popular and inevitable.”

India was initially queen to conclude a trade agreement with Trump’s administration. Negotiators from both sides discussed five rounds. However, the process stopped due to disputes. India did not want to open large farm and milk markets. Negotiations also broke out of the new Delhi’s decision to continue to import oil from Russia.

The criticism of the Chinese ambassador comes at a time when the US President is thinking of more economic punishment. Trump warned that countries that buy Russian oil can face additional tariffs. He made this statement at the last press conference in the White House.

In response to a question about new trade restrictions, Trump said, “This may be, I don’t know, I can’t say it yet.

Currently, India, China and Turkey continue to be the first three buyers of the Russian raw. Trump said that if the war in Ukraine does not end until Friday, new “secondary tariffs” can be applied.

Earlier this year, tensions between Washington and Beijing increased through trade measures. The United States increased tariffs in several Chinese goods and reached up to 145 percent.

In contrast, Chinese raised tariffs, but stopped at 125 percent. Beijing officials announced that more increase will lack economic meaning.

“Even if the US raises tariffs to even higher levels, it will be economically meaningless and will ultimately become a laughing style in the history of global economy,” the Chinese trade spokesman said.

Despite the current stance, Trump announced this year to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping. According to the White House, the meeting aims to establish the basis for a new trade agreement among the two largest economies in the world.
