Trump ‘Picked the Wrong’ Enemy With Letitia James Indictment, Al Sharpton Says: ‘This Is All Vengeance’
Al Sharpton thinks President Donald Trump “picked the wrong enemy” with his impeachment of New York Attorney General Letitia James.
On Thursday on “Deadline: Whitehouse” with MSNBC’s Nicolle Wallace, Sharpton explained that not only would making James more prominent in the public eye backfire on the president, but another indictment after James Comey would continue to make the motives behind these publicly questionable.

“I think if she’s going to pick an enemy, she’s picked the wrong one because the power and eloquence of Tish James will now be on the national stage,” he said. “Because, one, I agree with some of the panelists that the case will probably be dismissed. If not, it will really reveal that this president has been weaponized against any of his political enemies or perceived enemies.”
Sharpton later added: “No one can doubt that this is all revenge, an abuse of the criminal justice system. And I think what he’s doing is really going to backfire.”
James was indicted Thursday on mortgage fraud charges at Trump’s insistence. This came just two weeks after Comey was impeached and indicted for allegedly lying to Congress. The president has vowed to take on his political foes, and Comey and James have been Trump’s leading rivals since his primary election in 2016.

“This is nothing more than the continuation of the president’s desperate weaponization of our justice system,” James said after the indictment. “As I do my job as the Attorney General of the State of New York, he forces federal law enforcement agencies to do his bidding. These accusations are baseless, and the president’s public statements make it clear that his sole purpose is political revenge at all costs.”
He added: “The President’s actions are a serious violation of our constitutional order and have been subject to harsh criticism from members of both parties. His decision to remove a U.S. Attorney who refused to bring charges against me and replace him with someone blindly loyal to the president, not the law, is contrary to the fundamental principles of our country.”
James concluded his statement by saying, “I’m not fearful – I’m fearless.” He said he plans to fight the charges and continue working.
