Church of England abuse victims’ details leaked in email, survivors say

Victims of abuse within the Church of the UK revealed that personal details of surviving approximately 200 people have emerged with a significant data violation.
The leak was due to a compensation scheme to support them.
This incident points to a new setback for the church, which tries to reconstruct public confidence after a series of sexual abuse scandals and resign to the CANTERBURY Justin Welby Archbishop to address a child abuse case in November 2024.
The church, which serves 85 million Anglican globally, approved an independent correction plan for the victims in February, and with a large disposal of their protective structures.
According to Survivors House, a group founded by the victims of church abuse, the details of 194 people were included in a e -mail sent late on Tuesday.
E -Posta, which was sent by the Kennedys law, which manages the correction plan, was sent to registered plaintiffs, legal firms and church officials before being recalled a few minutes later.

“The protection and correction program has strengthened the failures of taking care to be discussed.”
The church said that the “deeply sad data event” was realized and that the Kennedys Law took full responsibility for violations.
“We are aware of the distress caused by this, especially for survivors who rely on the distress caused by this, especially the information of the program.” He said.
The law firm did not respond immediately to the request for comments.
Information Commissioner Office, England’s Privacy Observer Spokesperson, said he was aware of the incident and evaluated the information given.
David Greenwood, a lawyer representing the victims of abuse, called on the church to compensate for those affected.
“I have the right to anonymity for life in accordance with the law. This protection has been seriously endangered by any election.”
