‘Claimed Arunachal In China’: Indian Woman’s Post About Shanghai Airport Incident Sparks Fury On Internet | India News

A woman from Arunachal Pradesh recalled an incident at Shanghai Airport. Staff said Arunachal was held there for more than 18 hours on Friday because he claimed his Indian passport was invalid, claiming it was part of Chinese territory.

The woman, identified as Pema Wang Thongdok, shared her ordeal on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter). In one of his posts, he described the ordeal he faced while being held at the airport. According to Pema, the staff questioned his identity and place of birth, insisting that his passport was invalid.

In his post, Pema tagged the Prime Minister’s Office, Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu and Union Minister Kiren Rijiju, urging them to look into the matter.

“I was held at Shanghai airport for more than 18 hours on 21 November 2025, following allegations by Pema Khandu, Kiren Rijiju, Prime Minister’s Office, Chinese immigration and @chinaeasternair. They declared my Indian passport invalid as my birthplace is Arunachal Pradesh and they claimed it was Chinese territory,” the post read.

The post quickly gained attention, with many users expressing their anger, concern and solidarity. Several people called the incident disrespectful and demanded an official response from the Indian government.

Another user X asked: “Can we take action on this now?” he commented and tagged External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar.
