Cleveland Clinic to pay $2 million for detransition care in DOJ settlement

The Cleveland Clinic agreed to set aside $2 million for transitional care as part of a settlement with the Justice Department to resolve allegations that the hospital system submitted erroneous insurance claims for gender-related medical procedures for minors.
Agreement, Announced on June 5It requires Cleveland Clinic to pay $308,000 to resolve billing claims and allocate $2 million for what the Justice Department describes as “restorative care” for those who detransition.
“We are pleased to be working collaboratively toward a solution to the unintentional coding issue that concerns a small number of patients,” Cleveland Clinic said in a statement to Fox News Digital on Thursday. he said. “We remain focused on providing exceptional care to our patients and communities. We have and will continue to comply with all federal and state laws.”
The clinic already provides transitional care to patients who request it, he added.

A press release from the Department of Justice emphasized that Cleveland Clinic’s settlement comes less than a month after Texas Children’s Hospital agreed to pay a $10,000,000 penalty for similar violations; This included billing Texas Medicaid for “impermissible and illegal ‘gender transition’ interventions” as well as starting a clinic to treat detransitioned people, according to Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton.
“These historic commitments pair stopping these dangerous practices disguised as medical treatment with significant investments in healing the devastation they cause and restoring the health of victims,” the press release said. The statement was included.
