Storm Goretti LIVE: UK braces for 90mph gusts as Met Office issues amber warnings | Weather | News

Fresh amber warnings have been issued as it is feared that Storm Goretti will wreak havoc on Thursday with the possibility of snow, strong winds and heavy rain. The amber snow warning will be in effect from 20:00 on Thursday and will remain in force until 09:00 on Friday. The other amber wind warning will affect the Isles of Scilly and parts of Cornwall between 5pm and 11pm on Thursday evening, with peak winds potentially reaching 80-90mph in open areas.
Met Office Chief Forecaster Neil Armstrong said: “Storm Goretti will be a very dangerous event, with the most significant impacts coming from snow across parts of Wales and the Midlands, but rain and strong winds also have the potential to disturb many people. Goretti will bring snow to the northern edge, most likely over Wales and the Midlands. Here accumulations of 5-10cm are likely to be common, with 15-25cm in some places, particularly in the hills, and perhaps up to 30cm very locally the largest.” An Amber alert has been issued with the risk of disruption Thursday night through Friday morning, but updates may be required as confidence increases in the full track of Storm Goretti.
