Clothing brand closes Peoria store, fate of other locations uncertain
PEORIA – The Eddie Bauer located store The Shoppes at Grand Prairie closed.
A “store closed” sign hangs in the windows, leaving only a faint shadow of the brand’s name above.
Management at the Shoppes at Grand Prairie did not respond to multiple Journal Star phone calls or emails about future plans for the space.
The fate of the company’s remaining storefronts is currently uncertain. Earlier this month, Eddie Bauer LLC voluntarily I applied for Episode 11 A Restructuring Support Agreement was signed with bankruptcy protection and secured lenders.
A press release about the development stated that the company plans to “hold liquidation sales at its stores while continuing an ongoing sales process.” Storefronts in the United States and Canada will continue operating for now, and the company said it “may leave a complete cessation of operations” in the event of a sale.
Catalyst Brands CEO Marc Rosen said the company is facing supply chain issues, declining sales and other challenges.
“Over the past year, these challenges have been exacerbated by a variety of headwinds, including rising costs of doing business due to inflation, ongoing tariff uncertainty and other factors,” Rosen said. “While the leadership team at Catalyst was able to make significant strides across the brand, including rapid improvements in product development and marketing, these changes were not implemented quickly enough to fully address the challenges that emerged over several years.”
Online operations and wholesale sales will continue as they are operated by a separate LLC, the press release said. Storefronts outside the United States and Canada are also operated separately.
