CM Vijay Wants Retraction of Petrol Price Hike

Chennai: Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay led the State in urging the Union Government to roll back the sudden rise in prices of petroleum products, which has affected various sections of people in the country.
Vijay said the skyrocketing prices of petrol and diesel by Rs 3 per liter were unacceptable. Union public sector oil companies should not increase rates now when international crude oil prices are falling, pocketing their profits and never reducing petrol and diesel prices.
He said that the price hikes affect the poor more because they lead to an increase in the prices of basic necessities due to the several-fold increase in transportation costs.
The Prime Minister also deplored the increase in petrol and diesel prices, which has severely affected MSMEs, affecting the export of goods from the country.
Among other leaders demanding rollback of the increase in petroleum products was AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami, who said that the increase in prices of cooking gas cylinders, commercial gas cylinders, petrol and diesel had affected the people to a great extent.
TNCC president K Selvaperunthogai and PMK leader Anbumani Ramadoss were also among those criticizing the government for the price hike.
