Co-op confirms closure of three stores today – full list | UK | News

The closures follow the company’s plan to sell 22 of its directly managed convenience stores in 2025; It’s a move that Retail COO Simon Eastwood describes as part of an effort to “continue to evolve and improve”.
A spokesman for Southern Co-op said: Sun: “As a result of constant market changes and increases in operating costs, we have decided to sell our three food stores.
“This decision forms part of our wider efforts to optimize our store portfolio and strengthen our long-term operating model despite external challenges and competition.
“This in no way reflects the commitment or performance of our colleagues.”
Southern Co-op will now “work closely” with employees of the stores that will be closed. They added that they would “explore opportunities to move into other Southern Co-op stores/roles wherever possible.”
The spokesperson continued: “This may not be possible for everyone, but we are committed to supporting all affected colleagues throughout this process. We thank our customers for their loyalty and apologize for any disappointment caused as a result of the decision to close these stores.”
