Coach told FA Maddy Cusack was a liar, inquest hears

The inquest heard Morgan gave the FA information about his relationship with Cusack as part of the investigation following Cusack’s death.

In response to Dean Armstrong KC, representing Cusack’s family, Morgan said: “I really feel that in terms of the scenarios that have happened since Maddy’s passing, the events have not been factually or accurately portrayed in terms of how she felt.

“The false comment was based on the background of events after Maddy’s passing. It became clear that he had neglected his family and other things I supported him in.”

Deputy coroner Sophie Cartwright told KC there was “a lot of one-sided information”.

Asked how he spoke to Cusack, Morgan said: “I never shouted at Maddy Cusack at Sheffield United.

“I never shouted directly at Maddy at Leicester City.

“Maddy left Leicester in the January transfer window; it wasn’t my wish and I don’t think it was Maddy’s wish either.”

When asked about Cusack’s lack of playing time after arriving at the club, Morgan told the inquiry he was recovering from a foot injury when he made his first choice for the side.

The investigation stated that the midfielder played the full 90 minutes in the week before his arrival.

He later said that due to the form of the other players, he was not selected until the fourth game.

Morgan denied trying to “diminish him” by not allowing him to play, adding that he was recovering from an injury he sustained before coming to the club.
