Afghanistan Taliban free US citizen after envoy’s visit

The US government said that Afghanistan’s ruling Taliban was detained by another US citizen after the visit of US pledge envoy Adam Boehler.
The supervisor, who has been detained in Afghanistan since December 2024, was released with Qatar mediation and was going to Doha on Sunday evening, asking a official source Reuters not to be defined by name or nationality.
Afghanistan Foreign Ministry said in a statement that the government did not see the issue of citizens detained from a political point of view and emphasized that diplomatic solutions are possible.
Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi said that the release of the supervisor was a positive step in relations between the Taliban government and the US.

The supervisor said he was the fifth US citizen who was released by the Taliban this year thanks to a Qatari mediation, including a British couple held for eight months in early September.
“I want to thank Qatar for helping his freedom,” US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, “I would like to thank him for helping his freedom.” He said.
“Potus (president) clearly stated that we would not stop until every American who was unjustly detained abroad returned home.”
Details of his supervisor, including the reason he was detained, were not explained.
The Bagram Base, which was targeted by Trump, was used by US forces after attacks on the US on September 11, 2001.
After the withdrawal of foreign forces in 2021 and the overthrow of the US -backed government in Kabul, the Islamist Taliban movement was taken over.
