Coco Gauff Involved in ‘Mini Car Accident’ on Her Way to French Open Match, Still Gets Win

Paris:Coco Gauff was involved in a car accident on Tuesday while en route to Roland Garros for the first match of her French Open title defense. He didn’t seem injured.

“We had a little car accident on the way to the field today,” Gauff told TNT Sports with a laugh. “We hit a pole. You felt a little impact. I spilled my juice all over the car.

“The car couldn’t be driven. So we had to take a taxi,” Gauff added after defeating American Taylor Townsend 6-4, 6-0.

Gauff started her match earlier than expected following a withdrawal in another match at Court Philippe-Chatrier.

“And right before we went out onto the field, my dress got stuck, so my physical therapist was in the bathroom trying to help me get it out,” Gauff said. “It was an eventful day. But whenever it happens, I feel like it makes you not think about the game either. I’m just happy to be here in one piece.”

Gauff defeated Aryna Sabalenka in their championship match in Paris last year.
