Colorado Woman Left in Critical Condition After Being Attacked By 3 Dogs Outside of Her Home
A Colorado woman remained in critical condition after she was attacked by three pit bulls outside her home.
The Aurora Police Department and the city’s animal services responded to the home at 11:40 a.m. on Monday, March 30, in response to a reported animal attack. When they arrived, authorities found Hilda Lorena Cifuentes suffering from multiple bite wounds.
Cifuentes, 57, was transported to the hospital and underwent multiple surgeries following his severe injuries.
He suffered severe injuries to his face, arms, legs and abdomen, and also suffered a head injury.

Cifuentes’ family spoke out after the attack. CBS Colorado about the incident and the extent of his injuries. The family said the woman could lose her sight and her left leg, as well as suffer other permanent and life-changing injuries.
Cifuentes’ daughter, Sandy AparicioHe told the press that the attack occurred while he was cleaning the garden on an ordinary morning. Aparicio said that while Cifuentes was moving items from his front yard to the common parking area, his neighbor’s three dogs broke loose and began attacking him.
“We don’t know if the door was left open or if it was an accident,” Aparicio said of how the dogs got out of their home. “But the dogs came out into the parking lot and that’s when they started attacking my mother.”
Brenda Chacon was nearby and immediately tried to intervene when she heard Cifuentes’ screams.
“I tried to do my best, but the dogs also started attacking me,” Chacon said. “I saw him suffer. That’s what hurts.”
Chacon shouted for help and tried to get anyone nearby to call 911. He then ran to a nearby store where he could get help.
Neighbors and surrounding people later came to the scene and started throwing stones at the dogs to stop the attack.
Chacon added that the dogs’ owners were also there, but they were unable to prevent their pets from attacking Cifuentes. “It was a terrible, traumatic thing. I’ve never seen anything like it,” he said of the incident.
According to the family, the attack lasted approximately 8 to 10 minutes.

The family also said three dogs involved in the attack were euthanized.
“What if it was a 2 or 3 year old?” Aparicio said. “His life will not be the same. How will he return to work? Everything will change.”
Cifuentes’ family is now demanding answers and accountability for the attack.
“If you are an owner, you have to make sure your dogs are safe,” Aparicio said. “Why were they free?”
