Comedy legend Bobby Davro, 67, reveals he is battling prostate cancer three years after the tragic death of his fiancée Vicky Wright

Comedy legend Bobby Davro has revealed he is battling prostate cancer, three years after the tragic death of his fiancée Vicky Wright and two years after suffering a stroke.

The 67-year-old appeared on This Morning on Tuesday and revealed he had no previous symptoms, but a close friend recommended he have a PSA test, which led to his diagnosis.

Ben Shepherd asked Bobby how he found out he had prostate cancer while sitting next to Doctor Zoe Williams.

‘I think one in eight men gets it,’ he said.

‘When I came here today, the man who picked me up from Waterloo was there. I think a lot of black men are more likely to get prostate cancer, so it needs to be checked.

‘Get your PSA checked and your prostate examined. My doctor said mine was a little swollen so I took a PSA test and it was 24, which wasn’t good at all.

Comedy legend Bobby Davro, 67, revealed he is battling prostate cancer three years after the tragic death of fiancée Vicky Wright and spoke about his diganosis on This Morning on Tuesday.

‘The NHS were amazing and a few days later they did a biopsy on me to check where it was and that it was moderate.

‘I asked the urologist if it was fatal because it’s the first thing that comes to your mind and he said no, I’ll be buying Christmas presents for many years to come. ‘That made me cry because it was so comforting.’

The PSA test is a routine blood test that measures the level of PSA, a protein produced by the prostate gland.

Cat Deeley asked Bobby if he had any symptoms before his diagnosis.

“Not really,” he said. ‘All I had was erectile dysfunction. I can say that, right? ‘It wasn’t nice and it might have something to do with the woman I lived with…’ he joked.

‘I tried taking the blue pills, if you know what I mean [viagra].’

He joked: ‘I used to take one every night when I was in bed. Not having sex. It keeps me from rolling the bed… Sorry, I have to make a few jokes. Anyway, I noticed something wasn’t right.

‘I was having a bit of a hard time with that part.’

Ben, Dr. She told Zoe: ‘The good news is he’s been diagnosed with it but Bobby still looks like Bobby. As he says, “You must laugh to live.” But let’s get back to the test that was the first indication that something was going on.’

Zoe said: ‘There are two groups of people. In those who have symptoms.. and often prostate cancer does not have any symptoms… especially in the early stages, although erectile dysfunction may be a symptom.

‘The more common symptoms are difficulty passing urine, because if the prostate gland becomes enlarged, which can also happen with cancer, but more commonly if it becomes enlarged for non-cancerous reasons, it can push the tube through which urine passes.

‘So difficulty starting, poor flow, difficulty finishing, so dribbling or feeling like your bladder is not completely empty can all be symptoms, but often there are no symptoms.’

He continued: ‘But if someone has symptoms it’s not screening. So you go, you have PSA, you don’t need to have a prostate exam if you don’t want to. Many men give up on this. ‘You can have a blood test.’

Zoe confirmed that one in eight men, one in four black men, will develop prostate cancer; That’s why we don’t need a screening program yet because we don’t have the right tests.

He said: ‘The problem with PSA is that there are a lot of false negatives for people who don’t have prostate cancer. Anything that causes the prostate to enlarge, including benign causes, will raise PSA.

‘Most people with a high PSA don’t have prostate cancer, but it does cause concern. You can also have very advanced prostate cancer and have a normal PSA, so this can also give false reassurance.

‘Many people can get prostate cancer and it won’t harm them. ‘Many men die with it, not with it.’

Bobby told The Andrew Eborn Show on Sunday that he was taking one tablet every day after his stroke, and joked: ‘The doctor gave me one tablet to take every day for the rest of my life and he only gave me six tablets.

‘Laughter is the best medicine,’ he said. ‘Unless you have erectile dysfunction and that’s too cruel, right?

‘I have another problem with me and this will be private.

‘I got prostate cancer. I’ve been diagnosed and it’s very bad. I’ve had this happen twice but I think it will get better.

‘It’s kind of mid-level and I’ve had all the injections and stuff, the tablets too, and it’s not a nice thing to have.

She said at the time: ‘It’s been just over a week since my beautiful @vickywright5459 left this world and it’s only now that I feel strong enough to share my feelings.

‘I would like to thank everyone for the support and expressions of love and kindness you have shown to me, Vicky’s family and loved ones…

‘It’s devastating and incredibly painful to think we’ll never be able to hear her voice, hear her laugh, look into her beautiful eyes, see her smile to hug and kiss her.

‘He will be in my thoughts and my heart forever. He was my Schluffe and I loved him and always will.’

Bobby later shared a stunning photo of Vicky and wrote: ‘I will miss you so much and love you forever. May my beautiful Schluffe rest in peace. No more pain, honey. ‘No more pain.’

Bobby returned to work by performing just a day after Vicky’s death – promising to perform despite the pain so as not to disappoint fans who had bought tickets to the show.

Then in early 2024, Bobby suffered a stroke after collapsing following a sold-out concert at the Coulsdon Comedy Club in South London.

Bobby had just walked off stage after receiving a standing ovation at the sold-out concert and then had what he calls a “funny twist”.
