Community shares moving tributes to ‘popular and much-loved’ boy, 13, after drowning at Yorkshire beauty spot

A 13-year-old boy described as “popular and much-loved” has tragically died after becoming stranded in a reservoir in Halifax.
Police were called to Leadbeater Dam in Lumb Lane just before 3.20pm on bank holiday Monday.
The young man, who was understood to be Reco Puttock, was taken out of the water and taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
A local rugby club, which was among those paying tribute, said in the wake of the devastating incident that “there are no words that befit such tragedies”.
King Cross Park Rugby League Club in Halifax said in a statement: “Yesterday we received the devastating news that Reco Puttock, who played for our 2025 U13 team, had tragically passed away.
“There are nothing we can say that will make this loss less painful for his family and friends, especially at such a young age.
“Therefore, on behalf of the entire club, we would like to express our condolences to his family, friends and teammates.
“Rest in peace young man.”

Another club, Kippax Welfare Rugby League, said on social media: “On behalf of everyone associated with Kippax Welfare, we offer our sincere condolences to Reco’s family, friends, loved ones and everyone at King Cross Park ARLFC.
“There are no words suitable for such tragedies, competition and colors do not matter in times of unimaginable suffering.
“Rugby league has lost one of its own and we all feel the pain.
“RIP Reco, may you be forever remembered, loved and cherished in the memories of all those whose lives you blessed.”
Lightcliffe Academy in Halifax also released the following statement: “We are deeply saddened by the death of one of our students, Reco.
“Reco was a popular and much-loved student who will be greatly missed by students, staff and our wider academy community.
“Our thoughts, prayers and condolences are with the family affected by this tragic loss at this incredibly difficult time.”

The school said students will be provided with support both now and when they return after half term.
It was stated that information regarding plans to pay tribute to Reco will be followed.
West Yorkshire Police said detectives were investigating the incident but there were not believed to be any suspicious circumstances.
