The Congress, which is part of the Opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) in Maharashtra, has announced that it will not field candidates for the Legislative Council elections in the state on Thursday, April 30, 2026. The decision was taken after MVA leaders held a meeting at Shiv Sena (UBT) leader and former Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray’s residence.
On Wednesday, April 29, 2026, Shiv Sena (UBT) unilaterally declared its leader Ambadas Danve as its candidate for the election. Mr. Danve had already filed his candidacy for the elections. In response, the Congress also announced that it would put its own candidate on the ballot, opening the way for alliance partners to contest a single seat in the Council.
