Congress Tries To Win Jubilee Hills Through Basti Bata

Hyderabad: The Congress will launch a special outreach campaign called ‘Basti Bata’ aimed at connecting with voters in the slum areas of Jubilee Hills constituency ahead of the general election scheduled to be held on November 11.
Starting next week, the initiative will see ministers Tummala Nageswara Rao, Ponnam Prabhakar and Gaddam Vivek, along with AICC Telangana in-charge Meenakshi Natarajan and TPCC president B. Mahesh Kumar Goud, expected to perform padayatras in various slums. The campaign will last four weeks until the general election.
Under ‘Basti Bata’, senior Congress leaders will walk the streets of slum settlements, interact with the residents, understand their problems and assure them of immediate action once the general election is over. They will urge voters to support the party’s candidate V. Naveen Yadav and emphasize that his victory will strengthen the Congress government’s efforts to transform the constituency.
Although Jubilee Hills is known as one of Hyderabad’s posh localities, it is home to densely populated slums struggling with poor infrastructure.
Districts like RahmathnNagar, Kalyannagar, Krishnanagar, Borabanda, Erragadda, Yousufguda, Shaikpet and Ambedkarnagar are home to many low-income families. Residents here face civil problems such as poor sanitation, overflowing sewers, dirty water, damaged roads, illegal constructions, mosquito infestation and flooding during rain.
Anticipating the general elections, the Congress government has sanctioned ₹120 crore for development works in the past two months, primarily targeting improvement of roads, drainage, water pipelines and other civic facilities in these neglected areas. Party leaders plan to highlight these measures during their visit as evidence of the government’s commitment to inclusive urban development.
Prabhakar stated that the by-poll “is not just about electing a representative, it is also about changing the course of development of Jubilee Hills.”
“For 10 years, people voted for BRS but the slums did not receive any meaningful attention. The area was neglected. Now that the Congress has come to power, we are in a position to complete the long pending work,” he said.
He called on voters to see this election as a turning point for the constituency. “Jubilee Hills has faced neglect for years. Once the Congress government is firmly established, people should give us a chance to hoist our flag here. Just like we won the by-election in Cantonment, victory in Jubilee Hills will pave the way for accelerated development,” Prabhakar said.
