Convenience stores across WA shut down over illegal vapes, tobacco
Under new laws passed by the state parliament last month, nearly 40 stores have been closed across Perth due to the illegal sale of tobacco and e-cigarettes.
Health authorities now have the authority to close stores for up to 90 days if they are found to be stocking illegal products.
Health Minister Meredith Hammat announced the closure of 39 stores in leisure centers and suburbs such as Fremantle and Northbridge during parliamentary questions on Thursday afternoon.
“The first closure order took place the day after the laws were promulgated and this closure order came into force in Kalgoorlie,” he said.
